How does image compression work?

What is the difference between quality-based and size-based compression?

Quality-based compression lets you set a quality level (0.1 to 1.0) and the file size will vary accordingly. Size-based compression lets you specify a target file size, and the tool automatically adjusts quality to meet that target.

Will compression reduce image quality?

With quality settings of 0.7 and above, the quality loss is barely noticeable. At lower settings, you may see some artifacts, but the file size reduction will be much greater.

What image formats are supported?
