What is image pixelation?

How is pixelation different from blurring?
Pixelation creates a blocky, mosaic effect with visible square tiles, while blurring creates a smooth, out-of-focus effect. Pixelation is more obviously intentional censorship, while blurring looks more natural. Both effectively hide sensitive content.
Can I pixelate specific areas only?
Yes. You can select specific regions of the image to pixelate, leaving the rest untouched. This allows you to censor only the sensitive parts like faces or text while keeping the rest of the photo clear.
What pixel size should I use?
Larger pixel sizes provide stronger censorship but look more blocky. Smaller pixel sizes are subtler but may still reveal some detail. A pixel size of 10-20 pixels is usually a good balance for most privacy needs.
Is pixelated information recoverable?
No. Pixelation permanently replaces the original pixel data with averaged color blocks. Once pixelated and saved, the original detail cannot be recovered from the image file.
